Changing scrolling on Android

Is there a way to adjust the scrolling on android, Nexus 7 OG to be specific.

Its just not smooth. and no momentum.

Hard to explain, but im used to the iphone 5 scrolling which is smooth as butter.

Anyone that goes back and forth between ios and android should know what im talking about

Interesting, the Verge review of the new Nexus 7 pointed out that on the latest modern hardware, and fresh Android...it still can't scroll for shit.

The Nexus 7 OG has IO issues that affect its scrolling performance.

Try running fstrim on it

As for the scrolling itself, the scrolling "style" is different from iOS. Much less momentum.

I've tried everything, between research and trying different apps I've literally spent probablt 50 hours on this. You just have to understand it's different, better or worse depends on the person. I don't like it, especially when I scroll slow on my Nexus 4 I notice the screen doesn't move at all close to the speed of my finger.

Its very app dependent. Chrome and Twitter scroll just fine, but don't expect some janky Android 2.3 app that hasn't been updated in years to do the same.

I/O issues are not what's causing you from not hitting 60 fps.

I/O issues are what causes 12 seconds load times for app drawers and stuff. The non 60 fps scrolling that the OP is talking about is just an inherent problem with Android. You either need to get hardware that's fast enough to do it, or you optimize the software.

Yes OP, I completely understand what you mean. As someone who owned the OG N7, and has the N4 and N10, I do see that framerates are not 60 fps all the way. The N4 is probably the fastest out of all of them due to the lower resolution paired with a fast SoC. It's not as smooth as my iPhone 5 which I carry for work. For the framerate part, we either need Android to be better optimized or the SoCs to get faster.

As for the momentum part, I think that's more of a system thing. I imagine you can tweak the momentum in scrolling for apps like the browser or launcher within the app itself. It's up to the app designer to include that. As for the system... not sure. I do know what you mean about the momentum in the iPhone 5 scrolling. Its just a bit different in Android.

They scroll just fine for Android, it's not really a better/worse thing. It's just if you're use to iOS you're use to a very different kind of scrolling. I notice people who own Android and don't use iOS don't like how it scrolls, and visa versa. And android differently isn't as smooth.

I'm no software dev but I have two kernels I like - one that gives higher benchmark scores and battery life but has noticeably choppy scrolling, and one that gives butter-smooth scrolling (on a 2.5 year old phone!). Your issue *can* be fixed with software, but I don't own a N7 so I can't give you any specific advice.

I'm pretty sure this is true with every Android device. I've seen some custom kernels produce noticeably choppier and less responsive scrolling than others on my old Evo, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7.

Look into putting a different rom on there. Performance on my Nexus 7 was noticeably terrible, even coming from another android. Once I put a new rom on there everything was smooth. I don't think the vanilla android stuff it shipped with was optimized at all.
