Changing schools next year, have NO idea what to major in -- any 'advice' would be great

Like title says, I'm transferring to a larger school next year (Clemson) and obviously will have to decide what I want to major. This year, I goto a private school where we get Gen Eds out of the way before you take specific major classes.

Looking at the list of majors, I can't honestly say what I want.

1 thing I found out: I HATE economics. In high school I really enjoyed it but I found out this semester that I don't like it at all.

I am a little interested in marketing, since I think it would be a lot of fun creating advertisements and such. It also would work well because I like to dabble in internet websites, and marketing goes along with that pretty well.

I am just worried that I will find marketing to be similar to econ. I looked at the courses and one econ class is required, but it's the one I am about to complete right now (Micro).

If anyone has experience with marketing, please tell your opinions. Also any 'suggestions' or insight on what a specific major is like would help a lot.

Thanks in advance.

PS. What is CIS like?

marketing is not just making cool ads and websites. You are also looking at about 5-6 econ classes if you are in a business major

Yeah, figures, I thought it was too good to be true.

This stinks, I can't decide what to do.

I was an econ major in college, but ive been doing online marketing for 4 years.

I write ad copies for google adwords, overture, msn, etc..... Its actually pretty fun, i like it a lot.

But I also liked econ a lot, so I might be changing my career path to the finance industry.

BTW I am graduating college in 2 weeks.

As for my opinion, I would choose Marketing if you like it more. Marketing will allow you to take a lot of different career paths.

Im not sure if your college offers it, but check out Supply Chain Management as a major. Its growing like crazy and its actually really interesting.

Because a communications degree translates to "bullshit degree" once you graduate

Accounting, FTW! lol...like Capitalizt said, what are your hobbies, are good with numbers? people? just go down the list, and see what interests you.

I doubt I'd like accounting. I'm not great with numbers, good with people. I am just not sure what interests me class wise -- too bad I couldn't take a bunch of random classes to see what interests me

What is it about econ that you hate? It's a big field and if it's one part you don't like, you might be able to get through the stuff you don't like to enjoy the parts you do. And don't let one bad instructor turn you off to something you enjoyed before. I know that happens for some people.

I don't know, I just hate it. Graphs and crap suck, I just can't put my finger on it. Plus it bores me to death. I hate the math part, the concepts and stuff are alright.

I was looking at Marketing just b/c according to Clemson's site of classes required, it looked like there was very little Econ needed, and plus you can get a MS in Marketing from Clemson in one year.

I get a BS in Mechanical Engineering in a couple weeks.

Not the easiest major out there, but if you know your way around math and physics you can get through it even at the top tier schools. It's not all that painful.

It's also a very good degree to have when looking for a job ... my older sister got a degree in fashion from RISD and spend ~8 months looking for a job before she got one that pays very little. My degree gives me tons of options that all pay very well.

My current plan is to spend a year or two working (have a job lined up) and then go to graduate school to go for the advanced degrees.

In the end, I think, it's about finding a balance between what you enjoy and what will be useful for you later in life.

I'm sure that is a good one but I can't do any engineering. I'm thinking either CIS (not sure how that will be though), Marketing or Management, in that order. Possibly marketing first since I can get a Master's in a year from places.
