Changing Power Supply on Antec Solo

Hi I have an Antec Solo case with an Artic Freezer Pro fan and each time I have put the power supply in or out I have to take off the cpu fan to make room for the PSU to come out or go in the case.

There is a steel bar that runs across the top of the case that hinders the power supply from going in directly. Is there a way to detach this bar. Do other people also have to take of their cpu fan to change PSU...I am thinking it is major drawback for those who have have the fan installed with a bracket on the back of the motherboards....so thinking there has to be another way to do this or its a major draw back in the case. Any suggestions will help. Thanks.

Have tried that...that doesn't work either. I broke the metal of the front bars also..messing up the filter airflow system...the powersupply Tried antec tri tp3 430watts was too wide

I have a case, the C-M Mystique 631 that is the same way. In order to remove the PSU, either the HSF (I have a C-M Hyper TX2 which is about the same size as the Cooler Pro) or the whole mobo has to be moved. That's what you pay for using an oversize HSF in some compact cases. Most won't need to mess with their PSU for a long time once it is installed. The only option is to get a different case that is more accommodating for your actual situation. I've found it easier just to remove the whole mobo, HSF and all, than to have to redo the TIM.

Well I proved myself wrong - can create a problem when one uses the words "only", "always", "never", etc. See my post (below) about modding the Solo, etc.

Wow, I hadn't even thought about that with my Solo. I wonder how many cases are tight enough that that's a problem.

The AMD stock cooler is quite a bit smaller than the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro or the C-M Hyper TX2 HSFs. Just a matter of doing the homework BEFORE buying...

yeah I have had problems with intial power supply I bought. Had to mess a lot with the PSU since its fan was not working tried different positions and its been a pain taking out the cpu fan each time...such a great case...you would think they would have though about that and maybe lowered that rail running across the top about a cm or so or made it detachable.

Easy enough to make the bar removable if it is held in with pop rivets. Just drill the rivets out with a 1/8" drill bit and replace them with a 6-32 screws, lockwashers and nuts. Now that I thought of it, that's what I'll do with my Mystique before the weekend is out. There are several ways to mount the nuts permanently in place so you don't have to fumble with them each time. Unless you just enjoy chasing your nuts... 😉

Based on this discovery, I edited my earlier post.
