I have connectivity problems with AIM and it seems to be myself and people who are on DSL providers backed by Verizon. Would changing ports on AIM do anything? Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure that this would really be possible since you have to connect to the AIM server on a specific port, unless you could morph your local port to a different port on the server, and I haven't heard of that, but it doesn't mean that it's impossible.

You may have to use a proxy of some kind. And what do you mean by connectivity problems--please define that a bit more specifically.

i get kicked off and i dont realize it til the reconnect dialog pops up 30-60 seconds later so all those messages i wrote in between really didnt go through. it reconnects within 10 seconds. its always the verizon-backed dsl providers it seems.

You CAN change the port that outgoing traffic moves on, we had to when I was back living in the dorms on campus. Either so many people were using aim that there wasn't enough bandwidth over the normal port, or the school blocked it to save bandwidth. Only certain ones work though. 80 will work, as will 5190-5195 (I tried all of those). Basicly, it's just trial and error.

MrBond, are you saying that you just changed the connect port right in the AIM setup? Or were you using a proxy server?

Once again, this is ammo for my own BitWise, which always uses direct connect and doesn't have these goofy problems... not to mention it can send offline messages if for some reason your buddy can't be reached, and, if your message completely falls through, it'll tell you that the other person didn't get it.

Sorry, I had to put in that plug. :) It was just too easy.
