Currently have a rooted Droid x liberty rom 1.5, 2.2.1 (honeycomb I think)
Verizon

Wife wants this phone and I will get the Droid x2. Plan is to switchphone numbers thru Verizon.

Question:

1. Do I need to flashback to stock and unroot or will Verizon be able to change phone numbers without doing so.

If I recall when we did this before ( non android) all was needed was an automated phone call to activate the new number.

I am hesitant in the whole unroot, reroot process as the Droid x has a locked bootloader and isn't exactly brick proof.

2. Do you need to unroot to get new ota (2.3 gingerbread)

I think you can just give them the ESN and they can change it.

Yes, you need to be on bone stock .340 to get the OTA. Although there are files out there now that will upgrade you while keeping root, since no current rooting methods work on the OTA.

Thanks, still holding out on going gingerbread as everything is working well anyway on my current Roman. Will pretend I left my phone at home when we do the phone number switch.
