I'm considering getting a memory stick player - 128mb or something.

lots of my stuff are 100-150mb in filesize @ 192. is there a utility to lower the bitrate?

they are if you download live DJ sets ;)

my biggest single mp3 is 350MB (that's over 4 hours long - very very nice)

i think some of the programs that load mp3s onto the player can change the bit rate, but you'll probably lose sound quality.

that wouldn't be a problem really, as the live sets are either recorded..."live" (crowd noise etc), or from FM radio so aren't terrific quality in the first place. No reason to be 192 - 112 would be enough tbh... and I'd be using the thing mainly down the gym, so quality wouldn't be first and foremost :)

next question...a good memory stick player (128/256mb)? :D has to be loud :) and are fast forward/rewind and random play common on these things now...? not been up to date on technology since christmas unfortunately :(

A lot of flash players, like my Yepp :( , have somewhat weak amps. I usually have its volume close to maxed out to hear over my lifecycle.

A CD MP3 player would be cheap, loud, and let you store 700 MB per disc, but huge compared to a $300 iPod.

i actually already have the rio volt Cd/Mp3/radio player...

originally bought so i could plug it into the car, i've subsequently bought a car mp3 head unit since then so don't use it much at the moment :| not ideal for the gym cos it doesn't go very loud, and it's very bulky...something small that clips onto my belt would be better.

could sell the rio volt....but then if i needed it for something i'd kick myself :)
