Got around putting a new set of motor mounts on the 911. What should've been a 30-40 min thing turned into ~2 hours, just because the nuts where a bit seized up on the underside of the car. Each one of the mounts goes thru the very ends of the of the engine carrier piece and nut goes from the bottom:

Anytime your working on anything more than a couple of years old:
Estimate the time.
Double it.
Have a beer.
Double the previous time.

The same formula applies to $ on parts too.

So what's goin' on there now?

That rear subframe piece kind of 'hangs' from those two mounts? Similar to the upper mounts on a lot of FWD's, kinda? What's supporting it in the front?

Also, how long does it take to have the subframe/engine/trans laying on a table? :D At first I was like 'holy shit, that comes out in two hours? It is just like a Beetle!' :awe:

Hell yes! I'll take that any day over the "old guy who pays someone else to change his oil and install a K&N" stereotype.

The V sort of shape carrier piece is bolted on the motor and the whole thing is essentially suspended on the mount and the nut. I don't think FWD cars have this set up; it's made to make it easy to drop the motor/drivetrain from underneath (undo the bolts and you have it sitting on your chest). There's an extra trans mount in the front; gonna swap that out at some point as well.

I think dealers have a jig that lets them do it in under 2 on the RWD cars; I've been told that you can do it in 2 in your driveway if you've done it before.

But is there not a third mount in the front or something?

And yep, that's like a lot of FWD's. Instead of having mounts underneath the engine on a subframe, the motor/trans hangs from mounts in front of the strut towers.

Yeah there's a mount on the trans in the front. Will be replacing that in near future.
