Bit more of a jump for you so that may explain the trouble, I went from a 266A (AK31A) to (8K3A)333 so not much difference there. Thanx for bringing that up though because I should qualify my remark next time instead of issuing blanket statements.
Best way I've heard to do it is to uninstall all the ide bus drivers ( say no to any reboots if asked ), integrated drivers ( lan, sound, video--which should be set back to standard vga ) then reboot with xp cd and do a repair. This will reload all the xp drivers till you can load the updated drivers for your devices.
I've personally done this method with win 2k pro, have yet to do it with xp, and all was well.
