changing motherboard via -> intel on windows 2000

I have an old Via-based system running Windows 2000. I would like to replace the motherboard with an ASUS CUSLC-2 Intel-based motherboard. When I first attempted this upgrade, i got the blue screen of death after booting: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. After searching around on the web I found that this is probably because the existing installation of windows does not have the appropriate registry entries for the IDE controller on the new motherboard. One answer seemed to be to install the "Intel Application Accelerater", which will install drivers for a number of motherboards including my CUSLC-2. However, this program won't install on the win2k box because of the Via chipset. So, I have a chicken/egg problem: I can't upgrade the motherboard until I install the drivers, but I can't install the drivers until I upgrade the motherboard.

Is there any solution, other than changing the motherboard and installing Win2K from scratch?
 
Stick the win2000 cd in during boot and just install it over your existing win2k install. It shouldn't erase any files except the windows system files.
 
You did it the wrong way... The correct way to have done it would be when you had the VIA system booted up... Goto Device Manager and then change the IDE Controller back to Standard IDE Bus Master and then shutdown. Then install the new motherboard and then install all the new drivers.
