Changing motherboard question.

Will I need my license key? I'm going to a new motherboard from a P67 chipset to a Z77 so that's why I'm asking.

I don't have my key (I don't have the email anymore in which it was sent to me). What are my options if it asks me for it?

I have windows 7 x64 and that's what I want to stay with. I also don't want to lose anything I have on any of my 3 hard drives.

From my experiences in making similar upgrades, you will not only need your key but you will also most likely need to reinstall Windows to get eveything working properly.

You can use a program like Belarc Advisor to read your Windows 7 product activation key prior to making the upgrade.

If you want to try swapping in the new motherboard, by all means give it a try. Windows 7 is the most graceful of all Windows when it comes to big hardware changes. Despite what some people say, it probably won't be buggy at all, but it might need a little tweaking. You will probably have to reactivate, possibly by phoning in if it doesn't work online. It worked for me last time I tried. It helps that you are staying with Intel chipset and Intel processor.

Use Magic Jellybean keyfinder, on your old rig, to dig up your product key (not the same thing as the product id show in the System control panel in Win7).
