Changing Mobo w/ XP OEM

-Yes, I know this question is being discussed in another topic, but I want a clear answer.

I'm soon going to want to change my mobo (DFI Ultra-D) when Conroe comes out, so I need to know whether my Windows XP OEM will work with the new mobo. There's NO way I'm getting a new OS since I just bought it for $90 about a month ago, so that's a no-go. I'd like to know whether it'll WORK if I change the motherboard, and if it'll activate without difficulties. I dont neccessarily care whether it is illegal, or "against the rules", I just care that it works and activates without issues.

That type of an attitude can get you into serious trouble, both here and in the real world.

People offered you constructive suggestions and you are spitting back in their faces.

I am being generous and only locking this thread with a warning to you to change your thought process.

This is AnandTech, not PirateCentral. Asking for help with software piracy is not condoned here. Sorry, kid.

Yes it works, ask mommy for a bigger allowance

Not all of our coffers are filled with gold. Why should I pay for another copy of a software I've already bought just because I'm upgrading my PC? I guess in a monopoly market like this MS can do whatever they want..... but come on.

This is why Basket Cat suggests buying the retail-boxed Windows, if you're the typical AT hardware enthusiast. You don't have to buy it over, you don't have to ask if you will be able to get away with violating your license agreement, it's good forever. Yeah, it does cost more up front. If you are determined to break your license agreement rather than spend money to stay legit, then you might as well just pirate XP Pro Corporate Edition and get it over with. Eh?

In the future, I suggest you pay the extra $$ and buy Retail-box software. It's a lot less hassle if you build your own computers. You can move it anywhere you want.

Most people have an old license for '98, so they can use the XP Home Retail Upgrade Version, which is only about $10 more than the OEM version at Newegg.

Still, can anyone tell me if it'll work? I know its *technically* a violation of the EULA, but what's Microsoft going to do about it? Not like they're going to take you to court for it........... and even if they did, I think I'd win anyway.......

No, you should do it because those are the rules you agreed to. Don't like the rules they make? USE CONSUMER FRIENDLY SOFTWARE.

Well, I think a moderator may think differently. I dont see anywhere in the rules where it says:
