Hey all,

My gf and I just moved to a different state. Went to the DMV and got our new plates. Changed hers with no problem, but on my 99 Civic, the bolts are so rusted through I can't get them to budge. Can't get my old plates off! Yeah, I know I'm not very handy-but any suggestions?

Soak them with WD40. Try to spray behind the plate if you can. let it sit for 30 mins. Tap them a few times with a hammer and try again.

WD40 or Liquid Wrench should work. If you have access to a small propane torch, you can also heat it to break it loose.

the answer is to do you American patriotic duty and buy a new car. Spend Spend Spend. The economy needs you!

Or, pay a mechanic an hour of labor to do it. Another way to contribute to the economy...5 minutes of work for the cost of one hour of labor!
