Changing Honda Accord oil pan?

My dad tried to change the oil pan on his 1991 Honda Accord but ran into some problems. From what I understand, he managed to remove all the bolts but can't dislodge the oil pan because it is being abutted by the muffler.

Anyone have any tips on how to remove the oil pan without removing the muffler? Thanks

Oh...if you can, please be detailed as I have no clues whatsoever regarding cars.

is the muffler really adjacent to the oil pan? I look under the car and I can see the oil pan but not the muffler. Bah. then again, I don't know what's down there anyway.

he's gonna have to drop the downpipe out of the way... maybe not remove it completely, but enough so it can be moved down out of the way.
