Changing FSB for IDE and PCI

I recently toasted my 1700+, so I've downgraded to a Duron 1gig. The 1700+ was running with 158FSB, the best I can get on the Duron is 8.5x150 (1.95V / CPU temp @ 43C). Pretty good for a $40 chip, but I'm wondering if one possible limitation is that my mobo is setting the PCI multiplier to 3x, so the PCI bus is currently way overclocked at 50. I think I recall the default PCI bus on Athlon XP as 33x4, but I'm not too confident about these figures.

Actually, the problem I run into is that at FSB over 150 the system posts but the boot manager only loads halfway before hanging. Could the problem be the Hard Drive instead? Anything I can do to put the HD into a state similar to how it was with Athlon XP?

My system (other than CPU) is the same posted in My Rig below, basically a Shuttle AK31a mobo with 512MB of Crucial PC2100 RAM. I can't find anything in my system BIOS about changing PCI multiplier or some similar HD characteristic, but I believe I've heard people here talk about changing PCI and IDE multipliers. Are general comments, or especially info on how to fix things for the AK31a would be appreciated.
