Changing from DVI to VGA and back -> No signal

Hi

Just received my Samsung 214T monitor. And it is very nice!!

I have my desktop computer connected to the DVI connection, and my laptop connected to the VGA connection. Both signals work fine. However, when I start in DVI mode, and changes to VGA it is fine. But when I change back to DVI signal, the monitor goes to Power Save mode or somthing like that (power led flashes) and I can't get any picture. I can change back to VGA mode, with no problem. If I start in VGA mode, I cannot change to DVI mode.

To solve it, I have to reboot my desktop computer, and make sure that the monitor is in DVI mode.

If the laptop (VGA) computer is not connected, there is no problem, as I can't select the VGA mode.

I read the following the the Samsung FAQ section:

Is the monitor connected using the DVI cable?
You may get a blank screen if you boot the system before you connect the DVI cable, or disconnect and then reconnect the DVI cable while the system is running as certain types of graphic cards do not send out video signals.
Connect the DVI cable and then reboot the system.

This might explain it, but there must be some solution to this?? - help!! 🙂

I have a PowerColor All-In-Wonder 9800 card on my desktop.
I does properly not matter, but my laptop uses ATI 9700pro.

dont think so.. my does the same (not samsung) if it doesn't detect signal coming back, it disables the port.. maybe there is..

I found out that, if I connect to the desktop computer using remote desktop connection, the signal comes back on when the login page is shown. So I guess this somehow forces a wake-up signal to be sent from the graphic card..

This actually means that I can not use the monitor with two computers and shift between them. I was using this setup on my old CRT monitor with Synergy for switching the keyboard and mouse between the two...

There must be some way.!?!? HELP

You are right! It sounds like a similar problem. Thanks!

I actually just need to turn off the monitor and turn it back on again. Then the signal is lost (power save) - No vga computer connected! ..
Someone must have heard about that?
