changing from dial up to Broadband......

If i have a laptop, been using dial up on that to get online, and am finally changing to Broadband, don't I have do some settings? Isn't there a setting that I need to do in teh run command: I dont remember, but it's like wincifg or soemthing like that right??

oh well, plese help, and also, what would I do once I get there?

I am running win98 se.

but her, I have no idea. is it different for all??

Network neighborhood/properties/tcpip/properties/ set DHCP. See if that gets her hooked up. Your broadband ISP techs should have any peculiar settings for their services, like mail(pop3/SMTP) and any static gateways if thats called for.

You need to know what your doing or you can screw things up. Better call a pro.;)

if u r referring to renewing ur ip #... then u can go to run and type "command" (or "cmd" for win2000). then in the black dos box that comes up... type "ipconfig /renew_all" (or just "ipconfig renew" for win2000).

hmm.........guess I really do'nt know what Im doing. :(

but I remember seeing taht my friend, he went to the run prompt and typed "winipcfg." He changed something there and got online..........

what did he do? anybody know what I"m talking bout at all?

yeah, he probally released lease for the ip address and then renewed his lease.
thus chagnign the ip address.
