changing DMA Buffer size in WXP

been checking out freshUI and reading up on tweaks as i decide whether or not to use them and the DMA buffer size is killing me...

It says default = 16 and recommended = 64

However, post-Win9X the option to change it has been disabled

i found a system.ini hack that will allow me to change it but is it worth it?
any reason why it was disabled in the first place? thanks!

It's probably disabled because you can't change it, I doubt making the changes to system.ini will affect XP.
