Hey, if I swap CPU's from one Core Duo to a newer one will Vista complain? I would be going from a 6300 to a 6550.

i have yet to have any of my computers complain. I've gone from a E6550 to a E8400 to a X3350 on the same ultimate 64 install on a DX38BT motherboard. i've done various cpu swaps on other systems with no problems at all.

It will probably want to re-evaluate your system's performance again, so run through the Windows Experience rating system once you have the faster CPU in.. but will it "complain"? Highly unlikely.

Vista is very robust when it comes to hardware changes.

Hell ive got away with changing chipsets before in vista...

A cpu upgrade would certainly work fine.

Ooooh ... so I might be able to go from AMD to Intel without activation hassles on Vista ultimate? Interesting...
