I am upgrading my computer by changing the CPU/Mobo/RAM.

Apart from physically swapping out the parts, what do I have to do so that the PC will boot up when I hit the power button. Is it true that I just have to go into "Device Manager" and change the HDD Controller to "Standard"?

Another question: Is WinXP going to require me to re-activate? Is this a big deal?

I think XP allows 6 individual hardware changes every 3-4 months or something like that... or that is what I have heard. A Motherboard only counts as 1 even though they have many devices.

Edit...

The worst that would happen is you would have to call MS and tell them you need a activation code.. they will probably ask you why. I had to do that with a machine at work.. you read them a 45 digit number over the phone, and they give you a 40+ digit number back. I was on hold for only a minute or 2.
