I am currently on a family plan, the owner of the family plan is not me.

I am going to be getting a new phone and provider for myself, but would like to keep the same number. Does the person who owns the family plan need to be present for me to transfer my number? The number was mine before I transferred it over to the family plan.

Thanks.

I would suggest calling your cell phone provider and ask one of their CSRs since it may be a policy that is regulated on a company basis.

Generally yes, or they can call in CSR and have them add you as an authorized user to access the account.

Then you should have no problems. If you are going with a new company, let them do the work for you.
They will let you know if there are issues. Your dad might have to sign something to release the number, but that's it.
