changing boot drive letters?

memo

Golden Member
So i recently installed a new HDD. 2 existing HDDs were at D: and E:. So I remove the C: drive and put in a new WD 80 GB. It changes all the drives up 1 letter to C: D: and moves the boot drive to F:, because of an optical drive. Is there a way to change the F: back to C:? I know how to move everything else around in Admin tool in XP but it won't allow for to change the boot drive. I've found this at MS.com but I figured maybe there would be a way where I wouldn't have to regedit.

That KB is the simplest procedure you'll find. There is no way to skip editing the mounteddevices key.
