'm upgrading my 18gig scsi drive and card to a 60 gig ATA and a Highpoint Rocket 404 controller. From my expereince that if you use Norton Ghost to copy one drive to the other and try to boot up the box with the new drive that Windows 2000/xp will blue screen on boot up cuz it doesnt find the controller any more.

Is there a way I can install the new controller before I copy the drives or load the new driver for the controller so it knows to use that for booting up.

TIA,

You're exactly right.

This is a risky operation but there's a good chance it'll work.

First, install the Highpoint controller on the current system.

Then, go to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HighPointControllerDriverName.

Ensure the Start value is set to 0.

The clone the drive. Best of luck to you!

I had that problem with Win2K. I'm thinking of delete all controller drivers before I shut down and run Ghost. You can give it a try and share your experience with us. Thanks
