When my battery went dead last winter it was completely dead a few times, probably why I now need a new one after only 3.5 years. When it was dead and I got a jump or electronic charge/jump the security system would go off even if the car was running. Driving around with the horn beeping is quite annoying.

Are there any special precautions for manufacturer security systems. I think I had to re-enter the code for the stereo.

I checked the manual, but it said take it to dealer to replace battery. NOT.

What did you have to do to stop the security system after getting it jumped? You really shouldn't have a problem with it going off, if you leave the car unarmed, and even if it is armed it should turn off as soon as you hit the unlock button on your keys. Obviously the radio code is normal as the power has been cut, but I haven't seen many cars where you have to punch in the radio code to stop the alarm.

If you really wanted you could use jumper cables to keep continuous power as you change the battery.

I found some generic answers here. Without knowing what make, model and year it's all I could come up with.

I've been wanting to apologize for getting sassy with you a few weeks back in regards to my Comcast issue. I'm sorry, I hope you'll accept my apology.

It's only the intarweb, no worries. Thanks for the link.

After looking at the Acura forums the battery has a 100 month replacement warranty. Too late, I already bought a battery and have to be able to start the car tomorrow. It has enough juice to turn it over and start...but barely. If it gets cold tonight probably won't start.

So in this case I should have taken it to the dealer. :(
