Changing apple ID and app question?

I know that using a new apple ID on an iphone will leave the old apps previously downloaded on the phone.

The question is, will those old apps keep updating? When I look in the app purchased list in the app store, it doesn't show the other ones from before on the list even though they are on the phone. Wondering if I would have to delete and reinstall?
