Changing an icon, to one I made?

Hey, I have a program on my computer, which I think has an ugly icon and I want to change it. Does anybody know how I can change the icon to something I created. I don't want to simply change the icon. I do know how to do that. What I am wanting to do is change the icon to a picture that I personally created.

Any tips? or any tutorials to guide me?
