Changing a power supply. Easy/Hard??

I'm thinking about changing the power supply in my Fong Kai FK-603 case. Is it possible, and if so, is it relatively easy? I've never messed around with power supplies, but with all my overclocking urges, it's time I dump my 250w for something better.

I've never looked at my power supply setup, but I'm guessing I just have to unscrew it from the case, or something like that, and just replace it with a new one.

Unplug all the power leads.

Remove 4 screws.

Replace PS.

Replace 4 screws.

Plug in all power leads.

Power up.

It's that easy.

That's pretty much it... it's one of the simplest upgrades. Just disconnect the power cables from the drives, fans, and motherboard, then unscrew the 4 screws from the back and put in the new power supply.

[Geez... Electric Amish is fast!]

Should be a no-brainer. It has taken me under 30 minutes to complete the exchange in a number of different cases.
Just make sure you buy a power supply that has the same MoBo connectors as your MoBo (AT or ATX) Check how many power leads it has to accomodate the number of peripherals (Hard Drives, DVD's, CD-ROM's etc...) you will be connecting.
Unplug the powersupply before beginning. (this is a DUH situation)
It is about as simple as unconnecting all your peripherals, unscrewing four screws (while holding the powersupply so as not to fall on anything) and reversing the proces to install the new one. You may have to do some internal case unassembly depending on the style and size case you have.

Cool, thanks for the help guys/gals. I've always stuck with the PS that came in my cases, but I've switched out everything else. It won't hurt to learn how to change something else... :)

Yup as others have stated the process should take <10mins. Open your case, unplug all the power connections (internal and external),unscrew the PS (hold it so it doesn't fall), put the new PS inplace and screw it in, reconnection all the power connections.

in all your excitement, don't forget to take antistatic precautions when going into the case! :)

Depends, some guys like to make all the PSU cables neat and tidy,so it can take time here.

It's even easy to swap fans on the PS. Most of the job was trying to find a 2 pin connector for my replacement fan (not all PS fans have 2 pin fan headers from what I understand). I should've just cut the two leads, resoldered and called it a day. Oh well.. Now I can go back to the original fan if I ever have some sort of problem with the PS and need it replaced under warrantee.

I'm also getting carried away with little things like mounting everything that I can find with these nifty little rubber washers that I found. It dampens vibrations and makes things really quiet. :D

Oh.. Of subject again. Sorry.

To answer your question, R&R'ing your PS should be a piece of cake. I could do it in under 5 minutes and that's with going to grab a screw driver too. ;)
