Is it possible to change the video input cable on a monitor? I have an old 15in from my aunt's compaq that has a broken pin on the cable, so the colors are messed up, but I wanna use it for a dual monitor system.

You could probably replace the 15 pin connector with one from Radioshack. Cut the old one off and replace it with a connector and shell.

It would require some soldering, which could be a little tricky on the small connector. Just make sure the wires are color coded so you know which one goes to each pin. A multimeter to check continuity might also be helpful, because you won't be able to visually see what wire goes to which pin if it is a molded assembly.

Just so you know, I have never tried this proceedure, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I would NOT recommend opening the monitor body itself unless you really know what you are doing. From what I understand there are capacitors in there that can hold a dangerous charge even after the monitor is unplugged.

You might be better off bringing it to a local electronics repair shop; it would probably be very inexpensive, safer, and less trouble.

Good Luck,
