Changed the oil yesterday, car wont start this morning?

chaned the oil yesterday, and the car wont start this morning.. Anyone have any thoughts on why?

I noticed that the oil filter that came off was not the same size as the one that went back on. The new one was a lot smaller than the one that it replaced.. I watched the guy look it up, so I know I got "the right one".

I was finally able to get the car started (by forcing it really) and it is running real rough, and the exhaust also smelled of gas. Any thoughts?

Is the oil leaking under your car? Check the dipstick? And just b/c the idiot "looked it up" doesn't mean he got the right filter.

I know.. That is what I am worried about.. How would the car act if I put a smaller filter on than what is needed?

If the filter fits it will act like a filter. It's not really a big deal since every filter manufacturer uses different specs. The Mopar filter for my vehicle is about 50% bigger than the same Mobil 1 filter.

The car would still start even if you left the drain plug out, it just wouldn't run for very long. I doubt the two are related.

Did you put the correct weight oil in your car?

With your symptoms, that sounds more reasonable.

Size doesn't really matter, as long as it's still acting like a filter.

I took my car to one of those Econo Lube places once and the guy put in an oil filter that was too small. I smelled burning oil the whole way home so I took my car to Nissan and the guy said the oil filter was too small. There was oil everywhere and I got charged an extra oil change and labor for them to clean up the oil pan (cause of the burning smell). You better take your car to someone who actually knows what kind of filter will fit.
