changed my PSU and my PC is much hotter: normal?

i swapped out a OCZ600MXSP for a Corsair CX430 v2 because the OCZ was rattling. i did have to remove the CPU heatsink to fit the PSU in the case but i put it back right afterwards (didn't remove/reapply thermal paste).

now the rattling is gone but according to the temps, my CPU which didn't go over 70 degrees is now going all the way up to 77 and also my GPU is also 5 or so degrees hotter than before...

is this because i have a crappier PSU?

also touching the PSU unit in the back, i noticed its really really hot. i don't think my old one got this hot.

1. That was your first mistake. You've now got air bubbles between your cpu and heatsink. Only solution, and the only way to do it correctly, is to remove the heatsink, clean both the cpu's and heatsink's surfaces off completely, then reapply the TIM.

As for how how the ps is getting, is it mounted so the fan can get air without obstruction? And what cpu, video card, etc. are you running? That particular ps, while decent, is the lowest end Corsair made.........

yeah i will reapply the paste when i get the RMA replacement unit from ocz, the corsair was just a temporary unit until my replacement comes.

the cpu is an OC'd q6600 at 3.0 and gtx460. i didn't change any parts when changing the psu.

i understand this unit is a cheap, it cost me $20 after rebate but it is v2 and corsair ain't that bad, no?

IMO, neither one is a "top shelf" PSU, but the Corsair is porobably a bit a better PSU than the OCZ.

That OCZ model is Sirfa/High Power built.
The Corsair (IIRC) is a CWT build.

the Corsair is

Like Boomer said, the Corsair is not junk, but you're probably using more of its capacity than you did with the OCZ unit, hence making the power supply generate more heat. Don't sweat it.......sorry about the pun.

Get the cpu's TIM fixed and your cpu temp should moderate a bit.
