OMG!!! What a difference, I can now host on WC3, Download via Torrents faster, etc.

If any of you are having trouble with port forwarding, it's probably because ur ip isnt static.. and this fixed my problem.

(Sorry if this goes to Software/Apps/Gaming)

There must be a problem with your ISP's DHCP configuration for this to happen

Um.

I *AM* allowed to do this, arent I? I was trying to forward some ports, and I read a tutorial that was on changing IP from dynamic to static...

just because you can doesn't mean you are allowed to... like you can uncap your modem, but be prepared to get contacted :p

So, I wasn't suppose to change it to static?

Perhaps he's talking about setting his internal IP (as in within his LAN) to static but his router is still getting a Dynamic external IP? That's what I believe he's talking about but if I'm wrong then yeah he'll be contacted by his ISP.

typically you have to have a business line in order to have a static IP. the ISP assigns the IPs via DHCP... i mean i don't know for sure that your ISP doesn't allow it, but most you have to pay extra for this feature

sure it is, it's just a file on your modem that limits you. however uncapping it is a federal violation

Guys.

What I'm talking about, is this...

http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm

I pray this is what nsafreak is talking about...

ah, well if it is behind your router no worries :)

PHEW

even if it hadn't been, it wouldn't have been a big deal with your ISP. They would have just told you to turn off the static thingy, no federal violation there :p

I wish I could get my IP to be more dynamic. I would like my comcast cable modem IP to change more frequently. I don't think it's changed in almost a year.

I think I probably need a better modem to get that 6Mbps but yeah it's fast... 3 to 4 Mbps pretty consistently but I know my older modem has to be a bottleneck.
