changed fan, now no display

I am freaking pissed. I changed out a fan in the front of my case and now I get no display. Everything boots, runs, the HD light on the case is pegged for some reason but nothing. When I boot up it pegs for a few seconds but that goes away normally.

Specs are in my sig.

I have not disconnected anything except the other fans and the HD's to make room for better air flow. I hook up everything exactly as it was before. I am stumped as i've ever been, as I've never come across anything so stupid in all my building days as to change out a fan and get no damn display. It's a PCI-e card so I dont have an extra card to test to see if the video card got messed up somehow, but I never touched it in the first place. I made sure I was grounded, etc.

Any suggestions before i literally tear this thing apart? ANd I mean in pieces apart like out the window kind of apart in a very violent manner.....
This is utter BS to say the least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, computers make LOTS of sense sometimes...

Just a few days ago I installed a new IDE controller card while my sound card was out of the case. Boots up fine. Put sound card back in rig. No longer boots. Take out sound card. Boots up fine. Put sound card back into the exact same PCI slot as before. Boots up fine.

Take out the video card. Turn on the system. Turn off the system.

Put the video card back in and see if it works now.

Well is giving me an error code "52" on the board meaning "test all memory (clear all extended memory to 0)"
Whatever that means!!!

Systematically remove and install your RAM sticks. If you've got multiple sticks of RAM, just use one and see if it boots, and check each RAM stick. Check different slots. etc.

I'm still getting the same things but trouble is on the digital dislpay I cant tell if its righ side up ur upside down I think i'm reading it backwards and it really says "25" and that one says "-enumerate PCI bus number - assign memory & I/O resource - search for a valid VGA device & VGA BIOS and put into C000:0"

That one sounds more logical as i'm getting no display.

I just might take the card over to frys and see if they can test it to see if its the card - I actually hope it's the board instead really, its a lot cheaper

Well I tried it again. Boot w/ card and boot w/out card and same onboard display. I think I'll take it down and have them test it.

Well it seems to be the mobo somehow. I went down and they wouldn't test it because it has 3rd party cooling on the video card. I picked up another video card just in case and it's the same thing with that one also. :(
Something is not right somewhere. I picked up an asus crossfire board just in case and its a good thing I did because i should be back up running tonight sometime and not have to wait until tomorrow.........hopefully

I mainly take pics of bands and the little ratdog that I have, you're a much better photographer than I......You take some seriously good pics if those are your pics linked in your sig.

Thanks for the help today, stay in touch, your a cool one on here :D

Off to do the dirty work :(

OK tried another video card and still the same. Changed MOBO out and have a display.
I cannot figure out what it could be, I never moved the video card. All this for a lousy $15 replacement fan :(

Did you plug the fan onto its own line or onto the motherboard?

Yup, the pics in my sig are mine. Thanks!

Sorry about the mobo. At least you're back up and running quickly.

I just have to think you dislodged or loosened something when you had the case open. Doublecheck and triplecheck, and have a friend look at it. Another pair of eyes sometimes will spot something.

I hear ya. I'm no stranger to missing some things in the past but I usually catch them pretty quick and go "duh"...I pulled everything completly apart just like a new build and re-assembled. Still the same thing.

Well I slapped a new mobo in since I wanted to go crossfire eventualy and got an ASUS A8R32- deluxe - the funny thing is it wont see my mouse, even plugged into the PS2 port..

Grrrrrr.....

Well i think whatever the problem was it took out my mouse too. I can use another but that one seems to be dead. It was a razer copperhead, too. :(

I had a problem with no boot a while back on the P4 I just built. Tried everything, reseat CPU (pain, because I had to ghettorig the heatsink with zipties, works good though), reseat vidcard, reseast ram.... where's the ram?! Oops, I forgot to put it in  Sorry to hear your mobo died, though. I was sad when I lost my K7N2-Delta 2 Platinum.

Well that's the strange thing about it, I didn't do anything to it. I just had a strange felling that if mucked with my PC something was going to happen, and it did. I should have left well enough alone:laugh:
What's wierd is everything powered up just fine. Just nothing on screen. Damn strangest thing i'd ever come across as far as PC problems. :(
Well I got the crossfire board I was wanting for awhile, just not under these circumstances
It seems to be running fine right now, no issues yet, except for the fact that when I reboot it comes up with a "overclocking failed" in the BIOS, and I haven't gone into the BIOS - and the other razer mouse I plugged in - the software keeps resetting itself to defaults and I have to unplug-replug the mouse to get it live on the desktop. Just annoyances. I might reinstall windows again and see if the quirks go away
