Hi.

I have an older PPro system that I like to mess around with. The CMOS battery recently died and all the settings were reset to default when I replaced the battery. The bootup was way longer than it has previously been, so I tried to enable (or cutout) some diagnostic stuff on boot up. The only problem is now I can't get into the BIOS by hitting the delete key before the OS starts up.

How can I fix this?

TIA,

Sal

Hey Salvador,
Take out CMOS battery for about 10 min. or so, that should reset your BIOS to default.

Heh.. That's what I have to do then? Pull out the CMOS battery. I thought about that, but I thought that there might be an easier way. I have to pull the mobo to get to the CMOS battery on this system. It's an old PPro system.

BTW.. What setting do you think it was that made it so I couldn't enter the BIOS when hitting delete? I want to change the boot settings, so I'm not waiting forever for the machine the boot, but I don't want to eliminate the feature again.

Before I changed the dead CMOS battery, it booted quick and started the OS right away. Now, it likes to count my system RAM and do other diagnostic checks that I can give a crap about.

Thanks again!

Sal

PS.. Hey Scrappy! Long time, no talk. How goes it? I finally got around to using that Epox 8K5A2+ board and I know that you've built a few systems around it. I need your help to tweak the settings on it to get it running to its full potential when you get a chance.

Have you enabled "quick boot" in the BIOS? That will stop the extensive testing procedures which are taking up so much time

You may not have to remove the Battery, if it is one of those that has the little clip on the top just slide a piece of paper under it (between the bat and clip) will probably work.

It is, but it's impossible to get to without removing the mobo.

I guess removing the battery it is..

Thanks again!
