Change your monitor's Freesync range

Why is this possible, why don't manufacturers increase it by default and why is no tech journalist checking this? I never understood why Freesync would be upper limited but nobody ever explained that.

I assume it's because they can only certify that every monitor will operate in that range. Kind of like O/C'ing headroom on a processor. It accounts for lowest quality units.

I believe the Acer X34 w/Gsync can be O/C'ed to 100Hz. There are probably some screens that won't do the 100Hz.

The tinfoil hat theory is companies need to justify the higher priced Gsync models and limit the range of the Freesync screens.

I am just not sure.. if panel can have a static refresh of 144Hz, why would the dynamic refresh rate be any lower than that? There must be some overhead or extra work that prevents higher refresh rates which current implementations are not capable of doing. But again, no explanation anywhere.

Don't know what the reason is? There are 144Hz Freesync capable as well though.

Is 144 Hz Freesync defined by the maximum refresh rate or average? If the latter the fast outliers might not be possible.

I just got myself a LG 34UM67 which is supposed to ship with a 48-75hz freesync range. But when I tried to do the freesync range mod I saw that freesync was already set to run at 40hz. I tested it by running the AMD windmill demo at 45hz and sure enough it works.

LG must be shipping these monitors now with a minimum freesync range of 40hz.

LG has informed me that current shipping product has FreeSync enabled from 40Hz - 75Hz. This is a vast improvement, and gives a full 35fps range of FreeSync capability.

It wasn't easy to hack the driver, but it finally worked. Did not tried going lower. I'm afraid to loose the 32hz setting.
