Change your bootup drive?

It's kind of a long story but let me simplify it. My computer would look to the c: drive for the boot.ini file, the boot.ini would tell the computer to boot off of the H: drive. My c: drive went bad, now I'm wondering is there anyway in the recovery console or otherwise to tell the computer to create a boot.ini file on the H: drive and look to the H drive for the boot.ini? I already tried bootfix and fixmbr and still doesn't work.

Sounds like you might need to go into your BIOS and specify the H drive as the primary OS drive. Then boot into the recovery console and try writing the new boot record. Not positive though. Post more info on your hard drive configuration.

when you're in the recovery console and it scans for windows installs is it finding any? it's 1:30 and I'm half asleep but have it scan for XP installs, it's not a fixboot or bootmbr. If you're able to use another PC to burn a CD download Super Grub it helped me (saved me) when I installed Ubuntu and after removing it couldn't get my XP to boot for anything. since you did the fixboot stuff I assume you are at least fairly knowledgeable when it comes to computers. Super Grub ain't really hard to use, burn the ISO to a CD and boot with it, should bring up everything you need

Well, I tried the cd and it worked I just wish I hadn't started a reinstall of windows before I found out that the reinstall didn't get windows up and running, because instead of booting into windows I booted to the install but I was able to repair it and it's working, everything is just like it was. Thanks QueBert.
