Change to Reliable Email Webhost

Say I own the domain through Namecheap.

I would like to find a host for email only (separate from my webhost). Can I set it up with my current email address hosted on my current host company?

Example.

I own abc.com. I use xxx@abc.com as my primary address. I want to use xxx@abc.com through another host than I am using to host the web pages for abc.com.

I am thinking this is a no, since I have to set the name servers, and you can only have one... right?

Yes.

Your MX Record tells your email where to go, your A record for abc.com (wow, didn't know you were a broadcaster) points to another place.

I've found the easiest thing for people who don't own their own nameservers to do is use zoneedit to host your domain name and have them mailforward your *@whatever.com to your primary address.

Cool thing I found out about gmail, if you validate an address you can send from whatever address you want. For instance i can send and recieve email on my bengals.net address on my gmail account.

It may sound complicated but its not really.

Find out what the ip address is of your current address.

ie: ping www.whatever.com

Go to zoneedit and create an account (its free) it will tell you where to point your nameservers

go to your dns host and point your nameservers to zoneedit

make sure to create an A record for your website. By default zoneedit will forward all email from *@abc.com to your default email address that you gave them when you signed up.

In gmail if you want to send as that address, you'll have to add it under your account settings.
