Was changing ram in the following setup: 3500 winnie + msi neo plat mb and after startup all I could get is running in " power save mode".

Reset the ram and they are in their dimms ok...

why won't it boot up in regular mode?

what needs to be done to rectify situation?

can hear windows load.... no screen

can't get into bios using the delete key...

repost from general hardware but getting no responses so I will try here

You may want to try Clearing Cmos, either pop the battery, or use the jumper, tho I usually do both.

will look for the battery on the board, have never "jumped" before...any drawbacks from doing this procedure?....don't want to fubar it more than it is...

thing is I can't even get into the bios now...delete key won't let me...

Well, First make sure the system is off, and the power cord to the Power Supply is pulled out, before you clear Cmos. Basically what it does, is it sets bios to factory defaults, and you need to go back in and tinker with your settings. If you use the jumper, just be sure to put it back the way it was, or Bios will not remember your settings.

ok, will try the first option, poping battery...found it... bios never were changed from the gito (have always had the same from when I bought it) I imagine when I changed ram it offset something...could you give me some direction on the "jumper" alternative? Have heard of it but have never had an occasion to use it unitl now...

thanks big L!!

well i poped the battery and nothing...cant even hear windows loading (when I say hear windows I refer to the audio sounds it makes when it brings it up to screen)

any other suggestions...did taking out the battery create another situation?

when I refer to the manual it talks about being able to go into bios and tinker, I can't get bios to come up....

anybody have suggestions?

did a search on this issue and come up with the following possible errors, mb, video card, or battery....uuuuuuuuuuggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!

reset the video card, nothing...looks like the motherboard may be bad...

any other suggestions?

-So did you get replacement DIMM's? If so, can you put it your old memory to see if you get the same error?

-Try connecting another monitor to your system.

-Try another graphics card.

-Try the new RAM in another system if possible.

-p. 2-11 in the K8N Neo2's manual mentions the nForce3 Ultra chipset's sensitivity to ESD, which is easily introduced if upgrading memory with the power cord plugged. So if you have an anti-static bag, then I'd probably wrap it around your memory modules just to be sure your get rid of any static (and don't forget to unplug the PSU and the ATX1 20-pin and ATX12V 4-pin power connectors when removing/upgrading if you aren't already).

-I'd definitely try manually clearing your CMOS (p. 2-24 in the manual). Maybe you had some specific timing settings for your previous RAM that your new RAM can't handle?

I have another monitor (brand new dell 2005 that I have for another build that I am currently putting together and switched it) no help, so thats out of the equation.

The only other graphics card I have is a pci-e so I will have to take this one and put it on a friends system and check that avenue out.

I was downgrading memory. I did the things you mentioned in regards to changing it out....I changed it from 2 (512) to 2 (1024) last summer, no problem...

both sets of ram were ocz 3200 plat, timings were very similiar 2.2.2.5 (512) 2.3.2.5 (1024)

If it is a static electricity problem what are the ramifications from it?

Have tried to find something in manual that refers to "power save mode" but nothing so far...what really puzzles me is that I can't get into the bios...

thanks for dropping by amdnVuser and giving me some advise...you went to a lot of trouble....appreciate that....

well, jumped the cmos, twice and still nothing. Can't even hear windows loading now (lost that when I popped the battery. If I could hear windows logo loading that tells me that the motherboard is working, right? Although i can't hear it now (due to popping the battery probably) so unless someone has a better ideal I think the next thing to look at would be the video card?

any thoughts?

on second thought, I don't get the sounds from puter when it cranks up, no beep beep from windows?

man...probably something simple but this is what happens when your ignorant...lol

How about the USB header/LED status indicator PCI bracket that comes as an extra? Do you have this plugged in? Although I've never had to use it, it's supposed to help you troubleshoot and narrow down what state your system is currently in. Take a look at p. 2-21 through 2-23.

In terms of ESD, it can essentially hinder components (i.e. especially anything with exposed electrical contacts like memory) from holding current/electrical charges correctly. I'm not too educated when it comes to electricity, but all I know is ESD + electrical components = bad combo.

well as a matter of fact I got it out when I was getting the reference material from msi out. Its laying on the chair. Will delf into that tommorow, better quit for the night before I really screw something up...once again amdvVsuer I want to thank you for tagging along here and helping me...you have made a big impression on me insofar as your willingness to help others and more than likely others who are "under the gun". I hope you stay around to the conclusion of this dibacall untill it passes...

Happy Holly Days!!!

One thing about it, working off my daughters ole k62 makes me appreciate the newer technology!!!! A lot!!

No problem. I actually had quite a bit of a hassle upgrading myself lately, so I was forced to reacquaint myself with the manual. Good luck.
