Well, not really sure how to begin this. Last night in Buddhism in society class I learned about a remarkable person AUNG SAN SUU KYI. To say the least I was moved by what I heard and surprised that I had not heard of her earlier. In learning what has been happening in Burma for the last 40 I was stunned. I will be happy to go into detail if asked but mainly I would like to offer you this article that was written about her almost a decade ago. It is a long read but I would encourage it.

Inspiration

FYI- She is still under "restricted residence," at this time. Her husband has since then died of cancer and the government would not let her see him as he was dying.

I am sure that there are many, many, remarkable people that you have never heard of. There are lots of people that do incredible things that we never seem to hear about and it takes other people to bring them to our attention. You will find people like that in almost any social oriented class. I am not trying to minimize what this person has done, just pointing out that there are many people like that in the world. It is a big place and there are lots of amazing people in it.

My .02 cents

Yup. It mainly focuses on Theravada Buddhism. Great class!

If you can post some examples I would really appreciate it. It helps me to believe that the world isn't totally hopeless.
