change my opty 146

I am thinking that my 146 opty at 2.9ghz would perform simarly to whatever i could get out of an oc'd 3800+ but im not sure how important dual core is now-a-days. the 3800+ are now about 85 bucks or so and the rig in my sig will eventually, within 6 months, will be shifted to my htpc so I am thinking the dual core might be useful for eventual hd or blue ray drives/encoding. with games i think i am bottlenecked with my 850xt but only stalker is not playable with dynamic lighting, if that is not on there is no problem. Will crysis use dual core processes like stalker does?

u may b disappointed... getting to 2.8 is a push, my kid is a little unhappy with his 3800x2 @ 2.65 vs his x64 4000 @ 3.0... there are only a couple things that really are faster...

Yeah, it pretty much depends on the kind of aplications/games you run, but pretty much everything coming out these days is multithreaded or on its way to be. Im quite happy about my move from a winnie to an opty 165

yea the point is that the rig will be used as a htpc now so i am thinking multi threading will be more important than when it was my main rig and I would basically do one thing at a time. So I am inquiring about the change for reasons other than gaming.
