OK, so I bought a Prescott. A 3.0E witch runs nicely a 3750 (havent tried any higher). Its cooled by an "old" Alpha, the model former to 8952T. Its been cooling my 1.8A @ 2.6 for a year now BUT the prescott needs som more air ;-) And 80mm fans doesnt suck/blow that much without the effect of LOUD NOICE! So is the SP94 MUCH better that the Alpha, considering noice AND cooling? Is it woth the upgrade? Other suggestion?

They are both performance heatsinks.... the SP94 is prolly a better performance HS but if your going to factor in noise, I'm not sure there would be much of a differance. I prolly wouldn't get rid of the Alpha for anything lese then a XP-120.

Thanks Operandi, my thought was that a sp-94 coupled with a 92mm fan generates less noise than a 80mm. OR at the same noice level a 92mm fan push more air than a 80mm fan. That was my point. Considering coooling ONLY my alpha performes well, but I am not willing to pay the cost of noice.

AND, yeas, the XP-120 would be greate but I dont think it will fit my setup. A is7 in a Sonata. The socket is close to the upper edge and the PSU rather close to the MB. Havens got any answer yet about the possibility. The XP-90 is an alternative but I still dont have more information about is than the overclockers.com-review.

Thanks! Ill try to dig deeper considering the XP-120 and XP-90 performing SOOO well. If the XP-120 doesnt fit my setup, ill go for the XP-90.

NP...

What fan do you have on the Alpha that noise is a problem, the alpha is good low noise cooler with the right fan. Right now I have an alpha PAL8045 with 36CFM Sunon fan that I control with SpeedFan this keeps my system extremely quiet 95% of the time as the fan is running at about 2000 or so RPM's and just over 3000 at 100% speed.

The XP-90 looks cool too but look into the speedfan option; the alpha is still a great HS.

On what info do you base that statement? Is this considering noice as an important variable (ie holding dba constant). If it were true. I would be happy but it just sounds too good ;-)

ive owned an alpha, ive owned a swiftech MCX, i own a SP-94 ~ the SP-94 owns them both ;)

the only thing better might be a XP-120 (and maybe a SP-90)

OK, thanks! I try to hold out for the XP-90 which got the highest rank over at overclockers.com. And its probably cheaper and lighter.
OR, I do have a chance of buying a n old sp-94. How much sjould I pay for it? OR, should I wait? OR.... ;-)
