Change Monitor Config...

Is there a way to do this in windows? I tried in ATI control panel but it seems to be a bit picky about what I need to do. I connected my tv through the DVI out on my card, my Dell 2001fp is connected to VGA (works great)... but now my Dell shows up as the secondary monitor. Is there a way to go into windows and change this?

Also, are there any simple display manager programs out there?

Thanks...

Yep I got that part but no matter what I do my Dell is IDENTIFIED as the "number 2" monitor and my tv is marked as "1"... I'm trying to reverse that. Any help?

Can you go into Display Properties > Advanced > Displays and see the display selections at the bottom of the window? With the ATI that I'm using now, there are little blue buttons that signify primary and secondary. If you have those, you can try to use those to select which display you want as primary.

You mean you want to switch monitors 1 and 2? Primary/secondary displays are a completely separate thing from monitor numbering.

As far as I can tell, the physical output port on the video card determines how each display gets numbered. I ran into the multiple-display resolution bug in WoW and had to switch which ports my TV and monitor were plugged into.

If anyone knows a way to change the way Windows numbers the displays, it would be really helpful.

Yeah I've tried that but I don't get the right resolutions for my displays when I do it. Maybe it's a but with the ATI drivers... it seems like a it is the physical output port on the video card which determines the number, but it would be great if there were a way to change it in windows... thanks for the responses, your opinions really help!

Well obviously you cannot change the PHYSICAL numbers - just which monitor owns the "Primary Screen" attribute of Windows.

Disconnect the TV, reboot without it, then the Dell will be #1. Shutdown, connect and turn on TV, and boot up again.
