CHange media scanner settings on Android 4.0.4

At work I usually plug my phone into my PC. However, whenever I unplug it, media scanner runs for like 5-10 mins and I can't access any pics or videos I've taken on the phone. It's a Samsung S2 Skyrocket. Any way to change the settings to either disable media scanner or maybe set it to scan like once daily or something?

The media scanner is basically uncontrollable. All you can do is tag folders with a .nomedia file to tell it not to scan them.

The other option is to switch your phone to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) instead of USB drive mode.
