I am not sure that this is the correct forum section but here goes.

Using Windows XP and IE7 on my work computer.

Why is it that on some days when I boot my machine that ALL (everyone of them) of my Internet related desktop IE shortcuts will have a little golden loop/band going around the IE symbol and then on other days the little golden loop/band is NOT displayed on ALL of the Internet related icons but is on just a few of them ?

Thanks.

Internet shortcuts ?
If that's what you're talking about then they're linked to favicon.ico on the website server and they can come and go depending on sites you vist. One day they're yahoo icons the next they're google.

Try opening one with wordpad and see if it says something, not that it goes to the website to get the icon mostly it goes to the cache that's why they're never correct and why I gave up long ago about icons, unless it's something really odd that might be malicious.

You could try cleaning the internet cache, or the shelliconcache or booting to safe mode and back or switching to large icon then back, and it might get them to what you want for a while but that's about it. In the favorite folder they seem to work better.

I found out what the problem was.

Apparently it is graphics related.

When I changed from 32bit color to 16bit color they all became the same with the golden loop around them.

I suspect that the video driver on my card is not up-to-date. But since this is my work machine, I will let the IT department worry about that.

Thanks.
