Change images to text?

Is there software out there to convert an image, displaying text, to editable text? I know a lot of the sccanners can do this when you scan, but if I have an image already, can I pull the text out?

Sure you can! Any program that has an OCR inside will do that.

is supposed to be a freeware ocr...never tried it...

omnipage, abbyy fine reader, textbridge pro are some of the big commercial versions

Mind you, OCR software can be really great or really sucky. I've tried quite a few in hopes of helping me at work, none of them were consistent enough to be of any use. I had just one character translated 4 different ways on the same page with one software.
