Change File Extensions in win xp

How the hell do you change them. i always used winfile in win 2000, but its gone in xp. i want to change a file w/ extention .wmv to .asf. How???

huh?

click on file
click on file again
change whatever.??? to whatever.wmv
enter

ok, its pretty easy.. open the folder that the file is on.. click on tools, options, then teh view tab... there is a check box marked "hide known file types" .. uncheck it.. then just rename the file

also.. notice the button you can hit to apply the options to all folders if you want

.asf is the same as .wmv

sorry, i was encoding a vcd and the proggie didnt like the wmv, it wanted asf. thanks for the help BOB . works great.

there is a freeware program called changetype...you can download it from cnet.
