Hi,

is there a way to change the CPU information that is is displayed when you right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" in Windows XP?

On my computer it displays:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor
3200+

I'd like to change that to e.g.:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor
3500+

Is this possible without overheating the CPU due to overclocking? (I would like the processor to run at the same speed if possible)

As far as I know, this has been asked once before. Someone wanted to change their P4 from saying 1.99Ghz under the tab to 2.0Ghz under the tab without overclocking.

The thread came down to this: If you are not willing to overclock to make the frequency change, then you are going to have to really know your stuff(beyond what 99% of the people here know) to change it at the code level.

Even if you overclock your processor it will always show as a 3200+ because that's what it calls itself.

Edited for spelling

Hi There!

Yes you can and it's quite easy to do as well.

Open REGEDIT from Start-->Run and navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0

Select ProcessorNameString and change the value to whatever you like.

HTH!
