Change Computer from Domain to Workgroup

win2kpro -> what is the easiest way to convert a machine that is set up for a domain to be converted for a workgroup? i changed the name and settings in windows network tab, but all the settings are gone for the individual user. do i need to just adjust the different user settings manually?

What do you mean by the easiest way? Right click My Computer, click on Computer Identification and click Change.

When you remove a machine from the domain you have to create user account on the machine instead now. When you log into those accounts it creates new profiles for them if they do not exist anymore. Each profile has it's own settings including the ones from your domain account.

i was hoping that there was some kind of automatic feature that would allow you to merge the domain users with the now workgroup users if you wanted. am i correct in saying that all the necessary info for the old domain users will be under the documents\setttings folders? i am assuming i could just copy the ones i wanted into the new account from the old?

Yes all their settings are stored in documents and settings. Copying them over should work for the most part.
