Lifetime subscribers probably have some strong emotions about things at the moment. But then again everyone has strong emotions when dealing with CO.

I guess it's still not as bad as APB or Hellgate.

STO next up!

My theory: Subscribers get access to all sectors and ships and freebies get access to just one baseline ship and a limit on what rank they can achieve. Buying access to more ships and more rank.

I said in the tester forums of Hellgate that people would be stupid to get a lifetime subscription. I asked some of those lifers after the fact how they felt, and they still thought it was worth it.

Name one RPG ever made that $200 would have been worth it. The cost of the base game plus 2 expansions(most you'll ever get) would have been $100 at most. Hellgate was doomed before release.

Game companies should set some standards for taking care of their best customers who buy lifetime subscriptions.

Lord of the Rings Online. Lifetime subscribers get 500 points a month for free, enabling them to acquire any and all future content without cost.

I just wanted to chime in and say that although I've never played a Cryptic game, I know Champions Online and STO were serious disasters. I would never play "normal price" for one of their games.

I feel slightly bad for the people that paid in advance for lifetime subs to CO.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Anyone who bought a lifetime sub to STO, knowing full well that Cryptic was behind it's development, is said fool. Too many gamers are so fiscally irresponsible as evidenced by stuff like that, the record breaking sales of COD: Just like the last game but with slightly different levels, etc.

But anyway, back to the original topic. Will give me a chance to try out a game I would never have otherwise.

All Jack Emmert games are doomed to failure. This is a well-known fact.

Now that's not entirely true. City of Heroes is still going strong with a faithful user base. Granted, Jack hasn't been there for a while now since PlayNC bought the franchise, but it is his lovechild after all.

I'm of the opinion that if PlayNC hadn't bought him out and replaced him with "Positron" he'd have run that game into the ground. There was a very palpable feeling among the players that he viewed that as "his" game. A lot of the Issues released made changes that he wanted that the players did not.

When it became obvious that CoX was dying b/c the players disliked his "vision" he copped a 'I'll take my ball and go home' attitude, sold to the Koreans, and then jumped ship to make the Marvel Online game (which had threatened to put him out of business only months before) b/c he was promised creative control; he could make it "his" game.

When MO folded he negotiated a deal for the Champions IP and then touted it as "the game I wanted to make all along".
