Champions Online is free to play 9/1 through 9/7

I know CO isn't very popular around here, but I thought I'd give everyone a heads up in case someone wanted to try it. The full, unrestricted game is free from 9/1 through 9/7.

I recently re-subscribed (after playing for a month at launch) and was pleased to find that my heroes (especially melee) actually feel "super" again. They seem to have unwound a lot of the nerfs they did in the infamous launch patch.

Hmm, I dunno, that's still out of my price range. Maybe if they did pay-me-to-play.

Haha! 😀 I was about to say the same thing. Free is good but they need to at least hand out some vouchers from dumbasses like myself that fell for their hype.

🙁

Never played as didn't get a good feel prior to launch when they were talking about making it also launch on console.

And if I was interested in superhero type mmo, with the official ones launching soon I would have even less desire.

Will this one work better than the last time they did this?

I remember trying to download the client when they had a free weekend it it took something like 10-12 hours. By the time it was done, it was Sunday afternoon and I didn't even bother to actually play.

i bit on launch for the pc and paid full price, i believe i played for 2 months(free + 1 month) and got to about lvl 28. then stopped. Certainly better than Aion i felt.
Not sure these companies understand that having MMO's priced according to all the other one's does no make you competitive. If champions was like 8bux a month. you would probaly get more people playing.as goes any MMO. I still want to one day hit max in CO, but dont forsee it right now. WoW can price its current rate because it is the "king" of the mountain so to speak.
I actuallly thought it worked out real well with the xbox 360 controller. some functions however were missing, i forgot them though.

You can activate an account (old or new) and start downloading/patching it now.

I've said the same thing, but until they learn we will continue to see large hyped launched followed by mass exodus, server consolidations and drastic price reductions until the idiots running things learn this.

Looking at it via economics, the WoW price was the standard before them and the amount of people playing mmos were just north of abysmal for overall pc gaming. Post WoW almost every new one is attempting to capture the WoW price model and ending up with maybe slightly better player numbers than the pre-WoW baseline.

yeah def. but look at all the MMO's going F2P, but only making the end and close to end game stuff cost money. I for one like this model for what its worth. I know financially it might not work out, but i can tell you one thing. if im content on playing one MMO, im most likely not gonna play another. such a Lotro. I dont think id play it for pay, but for free. Im gonna give it its fair share.Im sure it doesnt cost an absorbant amount to keep a server or servers running for a small player base.
