So, New Years is approaching quickly and I was wondering what you guys would recommend as a good bottle? I don't want to spend more than $20-$30. I would prefer a more fuit like taste. You know those fake champaign bottles you can buy? well I've always liked those, anything along those lines? I'm willing to experiment a little though. Thanks
korey;)

First thing I would recommend is making sure you have the correct spelling of champagne.

I live in Champaign, and you could fit this place into a bottle. Even if you could, who'd buy it?

I like this stuff from Martini and [edit]Rossi[/edit] that's sparkling wine. I'm not sure of the name, but I can buy it at any grocery store. It's about $13.00 a bottle, which is cheap, but it's the only alcohol I can get my wife to drink...eheheheheh!

Veuve Cliquot is the best you are going to get in that price range, but it's about $35 unless you can find it on sale. That's the cheapest stuff I'll drink. If you want something cheap but better than the rest under $20, look for Domain St. Michelle which shouldn't run more than $12 or so.

Chandon White Star is decent for about $23

Since you don't know how to spell champagne I'm guessing you're not too much of a wine drinker so you wouldn't be that apt to tell much difference between that and say, Korbel or Martini & Rossi which are about $13 a bottle (no offense, it just takes some experience to really notice a difference)...so go with one of those. They're not too bad but they're no bottle of Dom Perignon ($100+ bottle) :)

Go Illini!

I live in Champaign, but I don't go to the UofI. I'm 34 and have been out of school for quite some time. :p

i have bought alot of champagne, and i've got to say that if you want the best price possible on the real article - go to Sam's Warehouse
they have low end, middle and high end champagne at the best prices around. some states even require that they sell alcohol to anyone (including non-members).

any Chandon product nice (domestic)
Moet and Chandon white star reasonable import

hehe, welll I came back despite my embarassment (oh no, I think I spelled that wrong too, damn!). My mom is actually from Champaign, Il and is living there again so that's how I've just always spelled it. Heh, thanks for the corrections though and the recommendations. Hopefully that girl I have my eye on will like what I pick out. Thanks again.

at that price... you're not getting any good champagne.

might as well get sparkling wine.
martini asti & freixinet (sp?) come to mind... they're really cheap and fairly good.
I think it's like $7/bottle
