Sup guys,

My friend's 20-page Word file got messed up somehow . . . and I can't figure out how to recover it. It's a 60kb .doc file, but I can only recover the first couple pages or so. Anybody wanna see if they can retrieve the entire doc??

I have no idea what the structure of the document looks like, but the text still embedded in the file goes up to:

was unfortunate that so much time was spent on trying to overcome one man

there might be a copy of the file in the temp directory try looking for ~$FILENAME.doc

Would it be in the temp directory even if she worked on the whole thing from floppy disk? She never once saved it to hard disk . . .

hmm I just tried it and word puts the ~!filename.doc temp file in the same dir as the file you are opening...so it would probably be on the floppy. Unfortunately the file is deleted after you close the document so you will probably need some kind of recovery program to look for it. Also, judging by the size of the file (60k) I dont think that it has 20 pages of data on it.

Just looked again and apparently word creates another temp file in C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Temp\.
the files are ~WRD0000.doc and ~DF82C2.tmp. You're still going to need some kind of data recovery prog because these are also deleted once the file is closed.
